What Are The Causes Of Enlarged Prostate?

Enlarged prostate has been considered to be one of the major problem affecting men after their forties and the causes of enlarged prostate are simply unusual. Although the prostate gland is the size of a walnut it causes a dreadful problem for men. Prostate problems are typically seen in men after the age of forty. One of the main causes of enlarged prostate at this age is the constriction of the urethra by the enlarged prostate gland thereby disrupting the smooth flow of urine from the bladder. This is the main reason for the painful sensation experienced by sufferers during urination.

Apart from the pain, men who suffer from prostate cancer also suffer from the inconvenience of frequent urination. There are other causes of enlarged prostate in relation to it's discomfort. If the situation is left untreated, it may lead to infection and damage to the kidneys. Things may get so bad that the sufferer may not be able to urinate. This would be a dreadful situation as the person would be unable to urinate when the urge to do so is felt. It is highly recommended for every man, especially beyond the age of forty, to get a medical checkup to isolate an enlarged prostate issue and other medical conditions.

Causes of Enlarged Prostate May Not Always Need Rapid Medical Attention

Spontaneous medical attention may not always be required during the early stages of the gland's enlargement when the urethra is gradually constricted. Typically during this early stage a man with an enlarging prostate gland may not feel any side effects yet. However, if left untreated when the early symptoms are being felt - difficulty with urination being one, it may lead to more painful and dreadful consequences. Since the causes of enlarged prostate appear to be a consequence of the aging process, men above the age of forty should heed the signs when they are noticeable. Regular medical checks may isolate this problem during it's early stages.

An advice commonly offered by most doctors is to avoid drinking water after six in the evening to reduce the temptation to urinate at night. This may lead to other discomforts like interrupted sleep and subsequent fatigue. At the same time, they would also suggest that sufficient amounts of water be drunk during the day - at least eight glasses - to stave off dehydration and bladder infection. To reduce the chances of infection drinking cranberry juice is also highly recommended by doctors. Even though the causes of enlarged prostate can be dealt with, patients should get regular, at least annual, checkups to isolate and eradicate other potential health issues.
