Social networks and forums can be great ways to get yourself known and to create relationships with people that enable you both to choose if you would like to work together before you discuss business (caveat: using a sledge hammer approach to projecting your business ends up doing little more than sending you straight to someone's 'people you most want to avoid' list..)
You need to develop acceptance for yourself, (your brand), before you can draw the kind of people in who are going to work effectively with you, the more you give willingly and at the start, the less people demand your time, reassurance and presence in order to find their own level of replication and duplication.
